DevOps Engineer: what this role brings to your project

A DevOps Engineer automates the software lifecycle: they build and maintain the CI/CD pipelines that ship every release, reproduce infrastructure as code (IaC) with Terraform, run containers with Docker and Kubernetes and leave in place the observability that catches the failure before the user does.

They are not a developer turned sysadmin: the trade is automation. The three clouds (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) are environments they run on, not their identity.

Why work with Shakers

The advantages of adding this profile with Shakers

Deployment stops being an event

A CI/CD pipeline with review and rollback: every release ships itself, without the Friday deploy nobody wants to own.

Infrastructure reproduced as code

Terraform or your environment's equivalent: infrastructure is documented in code and reproduced, never rebuilt from memory.

Containers without environment drama

Docker and Kubernetes applied to your real scale: not every project needs the same orchestration, and the plan says so.

Capacity without growing headcount

A DevOps Engineer by project, no hiring process: certified talent that plugs into your access and your environments.

Observability before the customer

Metrics, alerts and traces configured from day one: the failure shows up on your dashboard, not on a support call.

The three clouds as environments

AWS, Azure or Google Cloud wherever your stack already runs: automation belongs to the trade, not to a cloud brand.

Tell us your DevOps project
What is the difference between a DevOps Engineer and a Cloud Architect?
The DevOps Engineer automates the software cycle: pipelines, infrastructure as code, containers. The Cloud Architect designs the cloud platform. One executes; the other decides the platform.
How much does a DevOps Engineer charge?
The scope sets it: which pipelines, which infrastructure and what level of on-call coverage. At Shakers the budget closes per project before kickoff, with no hourly surprises.
Do I need a DevOps or an AWS DevOps Engineer?
If your environment is purely AWS and you know it, the specialist profile fits. If automation is the problem and the cloud is just the environment, the generalist DevOps Engineer is the right role.
External DevOps team or in-house staff?
An external, project-based engineer fits when manual deployment already hurts and the load does not justify a full-time hire. In-house fits when automation becomes the product. Many start external.
Is DevOps work done remotely?
Almost all of it: the infrastructure lives in the cloud and team sessions run remote. Only the occasional physical deployment asks for on-site presence.
What does a DevOps Engineer need to start?
Access to repositories and environments, the current deployment process and one session to set the scope. With that, diagnosis and plan arrive in days.
What gets delivered in the first weeks

The pipeline that deploys on its own, with code review and tested rollback. The infrastructure that reproduces with a command. Alerts that arrive before the customer notices.

1,900 live UK vacancies mention devops engineer

1,900 live UK tech vacancies mention devops engineer, according to Shakers' market analysis (n=39,811, September 2026). CI/CD is the third most requested skill (5,749 in Spain, same analysis).

Where DevOps ends

They don't write the application they deploy or administer your database: they automate the path. If the problem is PostgreSQL alone, a DBA enters; if it's the Kubernetes cluster itself, the engine specialist.

Team per project, not a vacancy

The brief arrives with the problem: "we deploy by hand every Friday". Scope closes before starting and the pipeline is documented for the team to sustain.
